Special care information for Ethiopian Opals:
Ethiopian Opals (unlike Australian Opals) are "hydrophane", which means they like to absorb water. If the opals come in contact with water, they will absorb it like a sponge. If the opals are left in water and allowed to soak it up, they may lose their fire temporarily and turn yellow or brown. The fire and color should come back once the opals have fully dried, which can take a few minutes to weeks, depending on how much water they managed to absorb. They can permanently be stained if they come into contact with lotions, sunscreen, perfume, cologne, household cleansers. Ethiopian Opals are natural gemstones that require some special care to maintain their internal fire & colorful flashes A rule of thumb is to add your jewelry as the last item on and the first item off while dressing which will diminish environmental or accidental damage.
Key information to remember while caring for your opals:
1. Keep Your Ethiopian Opals Away from Water and Liquids
2. Do Not Expose Your Opals to Extreme Changes in Temperature.
3. Avoid Liquid Chemicals Around Your Ethiopian Opals.
4. Never Use an Ultrasonic Cleaner or a Steamer.
Information on knotted necklaces:
Just like hand-knotted pearls, it is recommended to restring your necklace every 1-3 years, depending on how frequently they are worn. It is normal for thread to stretch over time from the weight of the beads.
