Necklace Anatomy 101 - Brittany Myra Jewelry

What makes Brittany Myra necklaces unique and one of a kind; excelling in durability and aesthetic?
You might remember anatomy being boring, but this version is much more exciting. Each part of a Brittany Myra gemstone candy necklace makes up one complete, stunning piece that can be worn for years, and the anatomy of the piece is why:
- Since 2018, I've used a cast lobster clasp and infinity link. What is a "cast" clasp? The "cast" refers to the manufacturing process—these clasps are made by pouring molten metal into a mold, allowing for more intricate and uniform designs. This style clasp allows durability and security in your pieces. Combined with the singature look of the inifinty "figure 8" receiving link, you can know just by looking at these components together it is a Brittany Myra piece.
- French wire! Don't know what that is? You can familiarize yourself with my solid 14k gold french wire more in depth here. Not only does it provide aesthetic value, but it is crucial in knotted gemstone candy necklaces. It protects the silk from fraying, ensuring a longer lasting necklace. This loop of gold connects the silk and gemstones to the clasp. It took me nearly two years to develop this French wire. I am so pleased everytime I look at it and use it on my signature necklaces.
- This componenet took even longer to develop; Brittany Myra signature engraved heart tag in solid 14k gold. Throughout the years I spent countless hours, researching, sourcing, stamping blanks. Nothing was ever quite right or perfect. You know I'm a sucker for delivering high quality. Once I finally found an engraver to finely do the work on an 8mm size heart shape solid gold tag, I was over the moon. I did it! All my years of hard work paid off. Now I am happy to say they are on all the solid 14k gold gem necklaces.
- This is a newer component I call an "identifier." This heavy weight gold bead is on most 14k gold pieces, however there are some variations. This is a unique identifier letting you know this is a signature piece from Brittany Myra. Unfortunately, I found people were ordering my pieces, cutting off parts of the clasp and tags and reselling them online. I know! Shocking! So I started incorporating this new identifying bead. A little more gold, a little more sparkle, and the necklace would have to be cut apart for it to come off. You know for certain this is an authentic Brittany Myra piece.
- Last but certainly not least: jump rings. They're thick, solid gold, and for extra security, are welded closed. That's right, I weld all my jump rings. It's a fun process, and you may have seen some of that being done in behind the scenes videos on Instagram. I also polish them as well with rubber bullets and a flex shaft. These are just some of the many steps I take pride in for my handcrafted gemstone candy necklace.
- BONUS: Silk. I hand tie each knot. Most pieces are used with a double strand, meaning the strength and integrity of the necklace is double. When I am finished with a piece, I pull on it to double check for any imperfections or slack in the silk. Any gaps? I remake it.
- BONUS: Gems. I take care to hand select each strand. I don't just choose any gemstones to use in my work. Once you own your first piece, it will be easy to see why many have over 20 in their collections.
