What is French wire? Is it gold? Plated? Answering a frequently asked question here.

First, what is French wire?
French wire is the coiled wire you see at the ends of the necklaces and protects the silk thread from fraying.

If you plan on gifting someone a necklace (or yourself) but are allergic to plated metals, I have great news!

We hand coil our own 14k solid gold French wire. A shoulder burning process, but is so worth it.
This not only ensures longevity in our pieces, but it also never tarnishes. We started developing this component a couple of years ago, and finally perfected it last year!
Every knotted gemstone necklace piece will have solid gold French wire on it going forward. We are so happy to incorporate another handmade component to your pieces.

Our French wire is also one of four distinguishing marks of a Brittany Myra knotted gemstone necklace. This ensures authenticity, so if you are gifted a Brittany Myra piece, you can be sure it is the real deal!

If you happen to purchase a second-hand piece, you can authenticate it by looking at, and making sure, all four distinguishing marks are on the piece. You can read more about our marks here.
